Understandably with all the bad press that sun tanning has received from related skin cancer scares over recent years it is a fun alternative to go for the stars golden glows – the professional spray tan! Not only is it kinder to your skin, you also eliminate the risk of an unpleasant looking sunburn that many tourists incur when their delicate white skins experience the strong Bali sun. This can ruin several days of a sojourn, not to mention leave an unsightly peel for up to a week later. Ouch!

Glo Nail Bar is, in fact, the only spray tanning outlet on Bali, and recently opened to much acclaim last month. You can get a tropical bronzed tan in just 5 minutes (think of the time this will leave for other activities). For the best results it is advisable to exfoliate several hours prior to treatment. You should wear loose, comfortable, dark coloured clothing to your treatment and not be wearing any moisturisers, deodorants or make up (otherwise the treatment will result in patchiness). If you do happen to get the glo-tan on your clothes it will conveniently wash out. Although kind to clothes, it is nonetheless, unadvisable to swim or take a shower for at least 8 hours after the treatment – so that also means no dancing, or excessive sweating! With this in mind it is best to choose an appointment first thing. Glo opens at 10am if you want the tan for a golden night out looking Ursula Andress-ey, i.e. fabulous and natural. Alternatively, choose an appointment later in the day and make sure it will be an early night in!

The process is as simple as falling asleep on a sun lounge. You will have the privacy of the tanning booth to strip down to some paper-panties, and then when you are ready, you will be sprayed all over from a tanning gun. You have the choice of three shades of tan: a gentle glo, a healthy glo or a deep tan. Depending on your skin type, as well as pre-tan colour, the Glo staff can advise you on what would suit best if you were unsure. The session can also provide body brushing if you haven’t had the chance to exfoliate previously which will enable the tan to last longer, for up to a week. All this is very reasonable considering the professionalism of the staff and the state of the art environment.
